Website builders are good tools. The question isn't whether they work. It's whether you want to spend your evenings building and looking after a site, or answer a few questions and have three pages built and checked for you.
A website builder is cheap to start and puts you in full control. If you enjoy that kind of thing and have the time, it's a fair choice: you can drag, drop and tweak as much as you like.
The work, and the upkeep, stay with you. You pick the template, write the words, size the photos, fix it when it looks wrong on a phone, and keep the plan paid for as long as the site is live. For a lot of busy trades and local firms, that's the part that never gets finished.
On price alone, the two are close. In the prices we checked in August 2026, an entry builder plan paid yearly came to about £270 over three years. 3 Wee Pages is £149 to launch, then £49 a year: £198 over two years and £247 over three. So a builder can cost a little less over the first two years. You want a clean, professional three-page site without learning a builder or picking a template, and you'd rather pay for it to be done than spend the evenings doing it.
A website builder is the better choice when…
you want lots of pages, an online shop, a blog you update often, or hands-on control over every detail, and you enjoy doing it yourself. Builders are powerful, and they give you more room to grow than three pages will. On price alone, a builder can also cost a little less in the first couple of years.
Both get you online for similar money. The difference is who does the work, and who checks it before customers see it.
